Programmable Power Awning
The Solera Smart Arm is the first ever programmable awning for your trailer or RV. You can pre-set all of your add-on features and get your awning just how you want it with no more than the press of a button. The weatherproof control pad is integrated into the base of the right arm for easy access – no more climbing in and out of your RV to tweak with your awning.
Weatherproof Touchpad
On top of making it convenient to extend and retract the awning, the touchpad gives you 1-touch control of all your add-on features. It’s designed with a safety lock button to keep your settings and the awning where you want them. You have to unlock the touchpad before you can make any adjustments, so you won’t have to worry about accidentally elbowing the controls.
Add-On Features
The Wind Sensor upgrade (LC715123 – sold separately) protects the awning against wind damage. If strong wind is detected, the awning will automatically retract, giving you peace of mind if you’re away from your campsite when bad weather hits. You can toggle between 3 different levels of wind sensitivity using the touchpad, or you can deactivate the wind sensor altogether. Just mount the sensor below the drive head on the awning arm and plug the wiring harness directly into the Smart Arm touchpad.
If you have an LED light strip on your awning, or if you’d like to get one, you can control it right from the awning arm. It gives you 3 levels of brightness to choose from. If you’re enjoying your patio as the sun’s going down, there’s nothing more convenient than being able to turn on the lights right there.
To take your awning lights to the next level, another cool add-on is the infrared security sensor (LC715124 – sold separately). When this sensor detects motion or heat, it will automatically turn the awning lights on. This is a great security feature, as well as a convenient backup if you’re returning to your RV after dark and need some light to get inside. The sensor range is approximately 8′ with a 180-degree radius from its mounting location and can be armed with the press of a button. Installation is one step: snap the unit into place on the bottom of the arm, just beneath the touchpad.
Auto Rain Dump
One thing that can quickly ruin your camping trip is a broken awning. It’s not easy or cheap to replace, and you can’t really enjoy your patio without one. A big hazard to a healthy awning is rain: water pools in the fabric, stretching it out and putting strain on the arms with extra weight it isn’t designed to hold. Next thing you know, the fabric rips – the arms snap – the whole awning comes crashing down, slamming against your RV and leaving you with a big and costly problem.
For traditional awnings, it’s up to you to run out in the rain and lower one of the arms yourself so the water can run off. If you’re away from your RV when it starts to rain, you can only hope your awning isn’t damaged when you get back. This Solera awning solves this problem: it comes equipped with an automatic rain dump function. As soon as rainwater starts to pool in the fabric, one of the arms will automatically drop, giving your awning a pitched angle. The rainwater will then run off to one side, taking the pressure off the awning and your mind.
Adjust Arms for Best Shade
It’s hard to get your awning in just the right place to keep you in the shade all day, especially if you have one that’s pretty high off the ground. Sometimes you need just a little slant to your awning to keep the sun out of your eyes. The manual pitch adjustment built into the arms of this Solera awning gives you that option. Simply pull on one of the arms at the friction joint to drop that corner. It comes down easily and holds itself there for as long as you need it. When it’s time to retract the awning, there’s no need to readjust it; the awning will slide back in no matter what pitch the arms are set at.
Durable Vinyl Fabric
The durable fabric of this awning holds up to the rigors of the outdoors. It’s made of premium 13.5-oz vinyl, which is an upgrade over the 10-oz fabric used in many awnings. In addition, this fabric features heat-welded seams to prevent leaks. The fabric is cold-crack protected to -25 F, so it won’t crack or degrade during cold weather.
Installation
An awning rail is required to anchor the fabric of the awning to the RV, and your first step will need to be installing one (LC715217 – sold separately) if you don’t already have one on your RV. You will need a minimum of 2-1/2″ between the awning rail and the top of the entry door. You’ll also need 69″ of open space on the RV wall – from the awning rail straight down – so that the wall-mounted brackets for the awning arms can be installed.
The roller tube comes with the awning fabric already mounted and attaches to the awning arms. The other side of the fabric slides into the awning rail on the RV. Then use the included self-tapping screws to secure the arms to the wall-mounted brackets. The awning drive motor wires to the Smart Arm touchpad, which can either be connected to your battery or wired directly into your RV.
